Fourth Sunday in Lent

March 15, 2015

Dear Heavenly Savior,

People die every day.
People died this week.
Millions die every year.

A friend’s dad died Monday.
Eleven servicemen died Wednesday in a helicopter crash.

Even when we know someone is dying, we can hardly bear the loss.
When it happens unexpectedly, the shock deepens our pain.
We want to change it and keep them with us.

I imagine Jesus’ disciples and Mary felt the same as His death approached.
Surely, like us, they were shocked and didn’t believe it would happen.
They didn’t  know about His resurrection and
the gift for us of Eternal Life with God.

Remind us in our grief that the ones we lost, received your gift.
They are with You eternally. We’ll reunite in time.

Wrap Your comfort around all who grieve this week.
Guide the rest of us to help them – in whatever way we can.
To just be there for them as Your disciples.

Renew us with the confidence of Your grace and everlasting love.

John 3:16 (NRSV): For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.
